EDGAR & CORETA DAVIS HISTORY

 

Edgar Davis was born October 20, 1905 in Limestone County, Texas to Jeff Davis Sr. and __________. He had approximately 25 brothers and sisters, as written on the family history website (www.davisreunion.myevent.com). Edgar and Coreta exchanged wedding vows on December 13, 1922. From this union, 15 children were born: 10 sons and 5 daughters. Eleven of the children lived to become young adults. Edgar Davis, also known as ‘Preacher Davis’, moved his family from Texas to Los Angeles, Ca in 1944.

 

            Edgar enjoyed his family as well as traveling, to various locations such as Bakersfield and Fresno to minister the Word of God throughout California. Edgar Davis always said, “To love people and know your people. Stay with God and never leave the church.” Edgar passed away in November 1965.

Coreta Baker Davis was born May 15, 1906, to Wiley and Mary Ann Baker in Mexia, Texas. She was the seventh of seven children.

            As a child, Coreta attended Dunbar School, where she completed the 12th grade. She received the Lord at an early age in Texas.

            Coreta met and was united with the late Doctor Edgar Davis. This union was blessed with 15 children, eight preceded her in death.

            Coreta relocated to California in 1944, at which time she united with the Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church, under the leadership of Elder Jenkins. There she served in many auxiliaries. Most noted as a choir member and mother of the church, which she diligently served, until her health no longer permitted active service.

            Coreta departed this life on May 24, 2000 at 12:55pm in Los Angeles, California.
